WHO I LOOK UP TO - Jason B

The person that I look up to the most is my uncle Alex cause threw out all that he has been threw from watching his mother pass away in his arms at the age of 15. From all that he stills continue to move forward with his life and take care of his son. I know his son is my cousin but I’m so close to my uncle he`s like my older brother in a way. All my years of growing up, he was there to help me with school or girl problems or just give me advice on anything I ask of him. He`s thriving to be a rap artist and he`s quite good and he travels across the states to promote his albums and he does shows with artist such as E-40 and Beeda Weeda etc.

Another person that I admire is my dad cause at any time that I need him for anything, no matter if he`s upset with me or what`s going on, he will put everything he has to do aside and put me first before anything. He has a quick temper at times and do things that are a little blown out of proportion at times but other than that he`s a good person who cares about the people who he interact with around his home. If he had only one dollar in his pocket and a person less fortunate than him then he would give his last buck to the person just so they can feel better or get whatever they need just from that buck.

My mother is also a big inspiration in my life even though she can be a big pain in my head about everything. She had me at the age of 16 and has had a job since then and has always been able to take care of me by any means. She`s never been evicted from any home and she has great credit. When I get older I want to be financial straight like my mom so I can give back to her. I know I’m just in high school now but when I get set in life I will show my appreciation of what she did for me as a baby until I become a grown man.

My last inspirer is my grandma Carrie. She is the one that really keeps the family together in hard times or just to get the family together just to see one another. She has such a good heart to cause she will tell you herself no matter how old or how bad a person is, she will never leave her family on the street. She will always take them in and that`s a good thing. I`ve seen her fight with her daughter and kick her out and later that night let her back in the house to have a place to lay her head down.

I am also a person I look up to cause I am very strong minded

Someone I Admire - Quincy Guy

Someone I admire is my Marine recruiter sergeant Walker. He pushes me to do the best I can in school and out of school. He shows me just how many opportunities I have in life. He makes me work harder than I have ever worked before. He makes me work harder than most of the other guys to become a marine because he knows I am hard to break. He never lets me give up even when I feel like I can’t go anymore I still keep pushing myself.

When I’m at school he comes up here and he makes sure I’m on track to graduate and I’m in class all the time. He checks in with my teacher once a month to make sure I don’t fall off. If I start slipping in school he makes me stay after school until I get my grade back up to where it should be. He makes me go to tutoring and he makes me study before we work out. He makes sure I know that school is a big part of me getting to the Marine Corps.

On Thursdays we workout after school. He always pushes me to the limit. He makes sure I know I can’t give up no matter what because there is no giving up in the battle field. When I fall he always picks me back up and keeps moving me forward. He makes sure I stay in shape. This is why he makes Thursdays mandatory for working out.

Over the summer he made me go to his office every day to study so I was ready for the school year. He made sure I knew English, math and science. He even came up to the school during the summer to make sure my schedule was everything I needed to graduate. If I didn’t know something he always made sure there was someone there to teach me it. He knew I wasn’t good at math so he got a tutor to tutor me every day during the summer.

When it comes to physical strength he always made sure I was doing something to make myself stronger. He made a workout plan that I follow for the whole week including the weekend. He calls every day to make sure I did it. He never lets me forget to do it. If I do I have to double up the next day. So I never forget to work out.

These are just some of the reasons I look up to and respect sergeant walker. He does a lot just to make sure I’m healthy. He also does a lot to make sure I’m on track to graduate so that I can go to the Marine Corps. He never lets me forget what I’m doing it for and who I’m doing it for. So I work hard every day to ensure myself that I will graduate and go to the Marine Corps. I know that by the end of the school year all the work will have been worth it.

Someone I admire the most in my life is my grandmother on my mother’s side of the family. My grandmother is the overseer of our family. She is always checking on who ever she can whenever she can and when you have a problem with something she is always the one to talk to. I have been very close to my grandmother since I was born. She likes to remind me of stories in the past all of the time; Like when I was still an infant I went to live with my grandmother for a couple of months because my mother had to go out of town for business and couldn’t take me with her. After those couple of months when it was time for me to come back I caught the chicken pox. So I ended up staying even longer until my chicken pox were gone. When I finally got back home after a very long stay with my grandmother, my mother was excited to see me again. The only problem was that I was too young and stayed with my grandmother a little too long, so I didn’t remember who she was. The longer I stayed with her, the more I felt like she was my mother. My grandmother liver far in Los Angeles but I wish she lived closer.

Being in Cyber High - Michael Kirkpatrick

I got put in to cyberhigh do to credit loss like my fellow class mates. My personal story is that over the years that I have been here through the many classes that I have took. I would fail a semester now as we all know you cannot walk the stage and be successes full without a diploma it his really hard go on to bigger better things like college good paying jobs, the military nice cars lots of money. Without the diploma the odds are against you. Well were I am standing the odds are against me I need to make up a lot of credits in a short amount of time and to make things worse I need to raise my GPA. So this school year I have no room for failure. I am going to try my best to turn in over 80% of all work for my classes even if it kills me. I really don’t want to be that person that goes to a adult school because he didn’t complete all of his courses. You know what I want to be? A Game designer, chef or Air force Pilot. Most of those possible goals that I have set for my self is not possible if you do not have higher education. If I would go up to those jobs with no Extra education I would be turned away faster than you can say hey. Plus I don’t want to be a disappointment to my family no matter who you are that hurts your pride your heart and your soul. I don’t want to go through that pain. It would tear me up from the inside and leave a hollow shell of what I was I want to be successes full.

I am trying to get back on the right track and focus. So these last few day I have not missed a assignment. I hope to keep it that way for every class that I have this year I am aiming for a 3.oo or higher grade point average. I know I can do it. At the start of last year first marking period I had a 3.00 grade point average. I felt so happy and so good for the first time in a long time I had a feeling of successes! My parents were proud of me. That was awesome beyond all measure. I want that again. So this year I am traveling that extra mile. Even in JORTC the instructor told us to do a lap at our own pace. Most people are lazy and will walk a lap I don’t walk, me and some of my more athletic class mates jog and run the whole thing. The colonel loves that he said it was called enthusiasm. I will try to do that with all my other courses even statistics and physiology. This goal will be especially hard in my 7th period which is very disruptive the teacher tries her best to control it though the class over powers her. I will persevere.

I look up to my parents. I look up to them because of the obstacles they’ve went through and how they’ve went through them. Another reason I look up to them is because their my parents obviously; they’re the only people that have been in my life from day one. I go to them for guidance whenever I face an obstacle that I think I can’t face on my own. Like my mom always tells me, “I’ve been your age, you haven’t been mines” and whenever she says that it reassures me to never second guess her opinions and to know if the advice is appropriate for the situation. When it comes to both of my parents I have A LOT of respect for them due to the stories I’ve heard and the predicaments they’ve faced in the past; they both have definitely had it worse than I do. Stories like in elementary school my dad didn’t have any more clean clothes so his dad told him to wear my aunt’s pink sweat suit, which was super hilarious. My mom’s parents were very strict when it came to her and my two other aunts they weren’t allowed to sleep over other people’s houses when they were kids and in high school. But I look at all their past circumstances and learn something from all of them.

A person that I look up to, and respect deeply is my uncle and cousin. I admire my uncle because he is the only one from my family that has finish high school but also went to college and graduated. The career that he picked was been a nurse because he said he likes to help people out in health problem. After he was done with four years in college, he receive a scholarship to go to a university but he didn’t want to study no more, and he played in his college soccer team. I really admire that he played college level because he said is hard work to be in to soccer, do a lot of physical work but also keep doing good in his classes. Doing both things that a lot of time, been responsible is the main thing because soccer practice can two hours long, and been tired can make you not do the work from school.

The reason I admire my cousin is because he is the person in my family to finish high school with a GPA of 3.9, and he is going to college at San Francisco State University. He went to Oakland High School, and he was good at every subject at school. He also was in the varsity soccer team for four years. Been in the varsity team and been a senior at his school was a lot of work for him because he has to go to soccer practice right after school, and do the work that he has to do. For me, I think is difficult to be doing all your work every single night and be in a sport like football, basketball, golf, soccer, etc, and that can cause you to slack of in school an can affect your grade badly. He did both things and that is something to admires, and I hope he graduates from college.

If there’s one person I look up to, it’s definitely my grandfather. He passed away when I was in the 7th grade, about 5 years ago. I wish we had lived closer so I could’ve had a closer relationship with him but regardless of the distance, I loved him immensely. He lived in Los Angeles, with my uncle. Before he died my mom would tell me so many stories about his life, I was fascinated at all of the things this man went through.

He grew up in Vietnam, and of course, life was difficult. He and my grandma had 9 children, and to support them he made gravestones. Now, that job was no joke. It was hard labor in the hot sun for very little pay, so food and clothes were scarce. But indubitably they were a happy family regardless of their low supply of luxuries. He was the only one working until my two uncles turned about fifteen, and then they all started working and life got a little better for everyone. It wasn’t until they arrived in America for my mom and my six other aunts started working as tailors.

It’s not just the fact that my grandpa is the hardest worker I know, I just love the fact that despite all the challenges he faced as a young teenager, AND as a grown man supporting a huge family, he was never stressed out. He was such a happy person, and he tried to keep a smile on everyone’s face. Whenever I visited him in Los Angeles he’d recite different jokes, never repeating a particular joke twice. He loved to make people laugh, and he loved to laugh himself. He never made anyone feel bad for anything, above all he was very understanding of others.

After our whole family was settled in America, my grandpa developed a green thumb. He loved to garden! If there’s one hobby I remembered of him it was that he loved to grow everything he could. I remember running around in his backyard seeing all the flowers, lettuce, tomatoes, he also had a plum, apple, and pear tree. As a kid, my cousins and I loved to pick all the ripe fruit and eat them, but of course he would never get angry! He’d always tell us that he grew them especially for us to enjoy. He spent a generous amount of time to his beloved plants, watering them at the perfect time of day and harvesting them and giving all of it away to his friends and family.

The only things I have to remember him by are my memories, my mother’s stories, and a necklace he gave me on his death bed. It’s a carved wooden bird with golden wings, made by his friend in Vietnam. I never take it off! I means so much to me.
